I intentionally try to keep my blog posts positive (there is already way too much negativity in the world as it is) but what I heard and experienced today, just blew me away.
“We’re never coming back here again. Ever!” were the words I heard a woman tell her husband (at least I think it was her husband) as I walked out of church this morning.
I first noticed the couple when they came into church after the first song. They sat down and looked comfortable. I didn’t notice them again until the band played during the offering.
The band completely rocked out to Collective Soul’s “Shine.” It was awesome and the church was into it, then I noticed this couple again. Their mouths were wide open and the woman had her fingers over her ears. It was obvious they were uncomfortable.
I noticed the couple again when the pastor announced he was going to use 1 John 2:12-14 as his bible verses. Both the husband and wife flipped open their bibles and found 1 John faster than I thought humanly possible. The preaching wasn’t long, it wasn’t short. It wasn’t boring, nor was it over the top funny or theatrical.
The pastor ended the message reiterating that Jesus Christ lived, chose the cross, died and was raised from the grave three days later. He explained salvation and salvation alone through Jesus Christ. I hope many people chose to give their life to Christ today as the pastor offered the invitation to personally know Jesus. The service ended on what I thought to be a high note… then I heard those words.
“We’re never coming back here again. Ever!”
I realize that there are many churches in our area, all over our country for that matter. I thank God for each and everyone of them. I ask God to bless all of His churches and pray that all of His churches will live up to their fullest potential in Christ.
If I ever go to a church where I know that I probably will never go to again, be it because I didn’t like the music, the preaching or for some completely other reason, I pray that I will not be as angry as this person was this morning.
Jesus died on the cross for all of us. Salvation is for all of us. There are many churches, and I pray they all preach and teach Jesus. I pray that each and everyone of us finds the church Jesus would have us call home.
…and by the way, if you are wondering… I did and have prayed for that couple today and will continue to do so…
