I am working on the visual presentation for LifePoint for Friday night and my mind is wandering.
It is a good wander as I am asking God what He wants. I am not petitioning Him or asking Him to bless me, my family or someone else, I am listening to Him and asking what He wants right now.
Jennifer and I had the day off together and we went to see the “The Dark Knight,” the new Batman movie. It was really good. I mean it was good, but to hear people talk about it I expected more. Heath Ledger as The Joker was great, but I think lost in the hype is Christian Bale’s performance. Bale was fantastic in scenes where he plays Bruce Wayne… but I digress…
Before the movie started I took notice of the trailers. The four movie previews I remember: 1) Righteous Kill 2) Watchmen 3) Body of Lies 4) Terminator Salvation.
Why did I take notice of these previews? They all dealt with overtly “God” themes. All the previews dealt with issues Jesus addresses head on in scripture.
As the movie began, I prayed and Jesus showed me that true life moral dilemma questions are being dealt with in America’s public arena… just not (for the most part) in His church. Unfortunately Hollywood is dealing with these dilemmas/problems that the church is afraid to deal with.
Preview #1) Righteous Kill? Is there such a thing?
Preview #2) Watchmen? The last line of the preview was something like this, “When the end of the world is at hand and the entire human race is begging me for help… My answer will be ‘No.’ “
Preview #3) Body of Lies? Do you think we could all use an open discussion about lying? (btw Stevens Creek did just that a few months ago)
Preview #4) Terminator Salvation? Salvation by Terminator? Come on…
Why don’t we step up to the plate and deal head on with the real problems that face us? Teenagers need to be heard AND listened too! College students need to know that they are VITAL to all of our future. Children and parents alike MUST be taught about the POWER of FAMILY!
LifePoint, we are not going to stand by and let Hollywood, or anyone else for that matter, continue to define morals and ethics for us. JESUS has that and us covered. We must follow Jesus!
LifePoint… be ready…
btw… the scene in “The Dark Knight” when Alfred explains the possible motivation of The Joker to Bruce is one of the best scenes in any movie I have seen in a long time… pure evil does exist in the world…
indeed, there are a lot of moral implications in Hollywood, a lot of proof that people believe at least that there is good and evil; that’s a pretty good place to start talking about any number of Christ-centered themes.
