Today Stevens Creek opened up the new front doors to the church and allowed everyone to see the new 17,000 square feet that is the NexGen addition. You must see it to believe it. I have been to some unbelievable churches that would salivate to have The Creek’s NexGen facilities. To attempt to explain with words what God has done at The Creek would be next to impossible (although…I heard a new word that is coming out of the Beijing Olympics… Phelpsian: adj; a term describing an achievement that was once thought to be impossible but becomes reality in heroic fashion… see USA Swimmer Michael Phelps. Definition provided by Gil Allensworth)
Stevens Creek now meets at 8:30 am, 10:00 am & 11:30 am every Sunday morning. Normally Jennifer, John and I will attend the 10:00 service but this morning I had to be at the Augusta Salvation Army at 9:45. So I went to the 8:30 service.
Pastor Marty Baker preached great, but I had to get up and leave early so I could be to the Salvation Army on time. Wouldn’t you know it? Right when Pastor Marty finished making a point on excess and specifically about excess in eating, I had to get up and leave!?! You know that feeling you get when you have to get up and leave a room and it seems like everyone is watching you? I got that feeling! I could just hear people thinking, “There goes that fat guy mad at the preacher talking about being overweight!” I had to laugh to myself. I hated that I had to leave because Marty was tearing it up and I wanted to stay and hear what God was saying through him, but I had to go.
This was my last week at the homeless ministry at the downtown Augusta Salvation Army. There is something new coming to The Creek that conflicts with my being involved with Sunday mornings at the Salvation Army. I had to pray and seek God’s direction on what I should do and it was with a heavy but expectant heart that I said goodbye this morning to the men and women that call the streets of downtown Augusta home. Please continue to pray for them. Ask God to encourage them and bless them.
After I said goodbye at the Salvation Army I headed back to The Creek. I thought I might catch the end of Marty’s message in the 10:00 service that I missed from the 8:30. One problem though: I couldn’t find a place to sit!!! I LOVE THAT PROBLEM!!!
God is packing Stevens Creek out and I thank him for allowing me to be part of His move.
If you have not been invited to church, if you have not been invited to The Creek…
Please join my family and me anytime to come and visit Stevens Creek Church. Post a comment to this blog and I will contact you and together we can set up a time where we can attend a service together of your choosing at The Creek.
God is doing something at The Creek, something beyond phelpsian…
Gil. This was a phelpsian post.
