In case you weren’t aware, the best movie of all time is Top Gun. You may argue, but you will be wrong.  Top Gun is the greatest movie of all time.

The first gift that Jennifer ever bought me was the Top Gun DVD. I think she watched it with me once. She vowed never to watch the movie with me again because she couldn’t stand that I was quoting every line.

Pete Mitchell aka Maverick

I like Top Gun so much that every fantasy football team I had from 1998 to 2002 had Pete Mitchell on it. Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun is known as Maverick (his call sign), but his civilian name was Pete Mitchell, thus the reason I had to have the NFL tight end Pete Mitchell on my team every year.

I am a watch guy, so I became very excited last year when I learned that Top Gun, the actual Naval Aviator School, signed an agreement with IWC (International Watch Company) to manufacturer a limited edition number of Top Gun watches. IWC makes one of the finest watches on earth as they are know for their classic beauty and phenomenally accurate and complex movements.

I called a friend of mine who is an IWC dealer in San Diego asking him if there was any chance of me getting my hands on one of these beauties. He explained that at the time he didn’t have a price for the watch, and unfortunately, as soon as news broke that there was going to be an officially licensed Top Gun watch, his store had been flooded with requests for it. I guess being in the same state as the actual Top Gun kind of made his store a hot spot for the watch.

Today a customer walked into the store talking to me about the Top Gun watch. He explained that he remembered speaking with me about it last year. As he was talking he was removing his watch from his wrist and handing it to me. Here it was. IWC has created four different styles of Top Gun watches, but this was the exact one I have wanted since I first read about it.

So… if you have an extra $7,000 lying around and you really really really want to make me happy, I would love to sport this watch on my wrist.
