I got an iPhone.
I have wanted one since they first came out. You don’t know how many times I have set out to get one and for some reason or another I chose not to. Saturday, with Jennifer and John by my side, I got an iPhone.
Before I tell you how great it it is, let me explain how I came about getting it…
Jennifer and I were cleaning the house Saturday. About lunch time the house was pretty much clean. I just had a little bit of dusting and picking up left to be finished. Jennifer and John were getting ready to go see Jennifer’s grandfather because it was his birthday. The plan was they would go see Gramps and then Jennifer would call me as she was leaving so we could decide what we wanted to do for lunch. I realized my phone was in my car, so I walked outside to get it while at the same time Jennifer went to get our mail. I then loaded John up in the car. After he was buckled in Jennifer handed me the mail. At this point I think I put my phone on top of Jennifer’s car. Jennifer drove away. I went in the house and started to clean a little more when I realized I didn’t have my phone. I frantically searched the house (remember the house was clean so it couldn’t have been “hiding” under anything). I freaked out. I started direct tweeting Jennifer through Twitter. I searched trash cans. I remember filing some of the mail in a filing cabinet so I went through my filing cabinet. I went back out to my car. I searched everywhere. Jennifer didn’t respond to me via Twitter so I hopped in my car and drove to her grandfather’s house. She had already left. I drove home. As I drove I constantly scanned the road and side of the road with my eyes to see if I could find my lost cell phone. I couldn’t find it anywhere. I got home and Jennifer and John were there looking for my phone. I WAS FREAKING OUT!!! I was angry. I was short with Jennifer & John. I was mad. I PRAYED! I PRAYED! I asked all my friends on Twitter and Facebook to pray. I decided tp set out on foot. I walked about 2 miles up and down the path that Jennifer had driven to her grandfather’s praying the whole time that Jesus would show me my phone.
I didn’t find the phone but the walk did me good. I calmed down.
When I got home I explained to Jennifer that I would go without a phone for a few days and that we would pray that my phone would show up. Jennifer was not on board with this plan. She explained, correctly I might add, that Sunday was church and the Super Bowl, Monday I had to work and Monday night I had to drive to Charleston for jury duty. If we didn’t go and get a new phone right there and then, I wouldn’t have had time to get one before I had to leave town. Jennifer told me in no uncertain terms that was not acceptable.
SO… we headed to AT&T, our phone provider for the past 5 years. We had a wonderful salesman in Rodney who was extremely helpful. We explained our problem, in detail, while Rodney laughed. As I was getting ready to choose a phone, Jennifer asked how much it would be for me to get an iPhone. Rodney explained it would be $80 more. Jennifer looked at me and said for eighty bucks I should get it. I asked how much extra it would cost a month. Rodney looked up our account and he explained that we were being charged about $50 too much a month for our phones. As it turned out, with Rodney’s help, Jennifer and my cell phone bill with an iPhone would actually go down. That clinched it. I bought the iPhone. (as it turned out, my jury duty was canceled and I didn’t have to got to Charleston at all… but my old phone still hasn’t show up!)
THe iPhone… IS GREAT… after playing with it for a little while I kind of had a little bit of buyers remorse, but as I am using it more and more, that buyers remorse is going, going, gone. The phone does everything. I have never had an iPod or mp3 player, so that is really cool to me. I have never had e-mail on a phone before, so that is really cool to me. I have never had the internet on a phone before, so that is cool to me. I am still learning the iPhone, but it just keeps getting better and better.
Thank you Jennifer for pushing me towards getting my phone!
Now… can I make a deep theological connection here? I thought about the woman who lost her silver coin. She searched and searched and searched for it… but then she found it… so that doesn’t quite fit…
…but wait maybe it does…
I prayed and asked Jesus to show me my phone and he sent me to the AT&T store…
…just kidding, I have the ability or the inability to spin everything that happens into a spiritual happening… but maybe I am not so far off!?! God is so much more in control than I ever give Him credit for.
btw… You Version, LifeChurch.tv’s free Bible application that you can download to your iPhone or Blackberry is great. I love the “Daily Reader” function!
