A lot has been made about capping Chief Executive Officer’s pay of companies that accept “bail out” money from the United States government.
At first this pleased me as I thought, “Yeah that’s right! Those guys don’t deserve to make all that money.”
As I thought about it, I realized that I don’t have a clue how much a top level CEO should earn?
What difference does it make how much a CEO makes really? I mean where does the government get off hand picking CEO’s of companies that need government assitance? Why stop at the CEO’s salary? Why don’t we look to the federal government to set the pay scale for all positions within a company that accepts federal money? Why don’t we look to the government to start saying how much athletes can make who play in stadiums and arenas that were built with our tax dollars?
I think that greed has corrupted the United States of America, especially in the corporate structure that has played a large hand in leading our country into the financial mess we currently find ourselves. I do not think that having the government come in and set a salary cap for executives is the answer. I believe that is just a political stunt to appease most American’s and make us feel good that the “rich fat cat” is getting punished. Oh by the way, what a punishment? $500k a year… ouch that hurts???
This has turned into a rant. I do lean towards being “conservative”, but one thing I am firmly grounded “liberal” on is this:
Redistribution of wealth.
It seems to me that politicians didn’t have a problem redistributing money from tax payers to the “largest” and supposedly “wealthiest” companies in the country to the tune of over $700 Billion, but when the topic comes up for the government to help out the common everyday citizen of our country, some politicians go on cable news programs explaining that redistributing wealth is a bad idea.
Am I missing something? It is OK to redistribute wealth in a certain way, but if you want to redistribute wealth in another way, than that is wrong?
This rant is over. This was just a rant. The only (and best) answer I have to our country’s problem is Jesus.
I know there is a lot of fear in our country right now.
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love. 1 John 4:18 (emphasis added)
Hmmmmm, lots of interesting points.
