Today I want to talk about being prepared to offer church customer service.
A well thought out and well managed marketing plan will drive people to a specified place (even a church). If the place people are being driven to isn’t properly prepared, the people will leave and not come back.
Have you ever seen a great commercial on T.V. or heard one on the radio that led you to go and check a store out? As you would go to this store you would have a preconceived notion of what to expect based on the commercial you saw/heard.
A few years ago I lived in a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina when this church started advertising with my local cable provider. The commercials were great. The commercials targeted people with piercing and tattoos and played on the theme that Jesus was pierced. They were edgy. Even though I wasn’t the demographic the church was apparently targeting, I decided to go and check the church out. I expected motor cycles in the parking lot. I expected the greeters to be wearing Harley Davidson clothes. I expected the Pastor to be wearing blue jeans and probably a t-shirt. I expected rock and roll praise and worship. When I drove up I saw Cadillacs and Lincolns in the parking lot. The greeters were wearing jackets and ties. The Pastor was dressed in a three piece suit. The music was straight out of a red back hymnal. Needles to say, the church was not what I expected at all.
I applaud this church for trying to reach out of their norm to attract new people to Jesus, but they just weren’t prepared for what they were advertising for.
There are very few places that attract everyone… churches included. There are different types of shoe stores, clothing stores, electronics stores, book stores, office supply stores, home improvement stores, etc. … and yes, there are different types of churches.
Prepare your church for who it is that Jesus has specifically called you to reach… and REACH THEM!!!
