My jewelry career ended today. After nine years of learning, selling and learning some more, my days of selling watches, diamonds and other jewelry is over. After almost three years at Floyd and Green Jewelers, today was my last day.
I will miss my friends that I worked with. I will miss the joking around and pop culture trivia Matt, Tony and I shared. I will miss the sibling ribbing that I took and gave from Erica, J-Lo and Tammy. I will miss the theological discussions with Mike. I don’t know how much I will miss hearing about Susan’s family, but I know I will miss it. I will miss Connie getting in my way, on purpose, as she vacuumed the floors. I will miss Caroline’s computer freak outs. I will miss the days that I drove to work smiling because I knew it was a day Becky was working. I will miss Fred (what else can I say about Fred?). I will miss not being around for the birth of Emily’s son. I will miss Tom and the passion he has for life. I will miss Steve because I don’t know if I have ever learned more from anyone else that God has put in my life.
I will miss the customers that I have built relationships with. I can’t name them here, but I will miss the ridiculous conversations I had about Iowa football from the 1950′s to today (…btw… I really don’t know much about Iowa football, but I talked about that program for hours). I will miss hearing about the hip-hop shoe culture. I will miss seeing people eyes pop open when I handed them a Rolex to try on. I will miss seeing a husband get teary eyed as as he picks out the perfect diamond for his wife (that didn’t happen enough though…)
Thank you to everyone that has taught me, helped me, trusted me enough to buy from me, managed me or just encouraged me. I thank you all.
Miss you buddy!
