This morning I was reading Acts 16. In verses 1-5 the writer (probably Luke) writes about how Paul meets Timothy.
This caught me off guard. I have read the book of Acts many times but have never really concentrated on these verses. What struck me about this section of scripture was that before Paul met Timothy, Timothy was not just a believer, he was a disciple. Also Timothy was not out traveling the countryside looking for Paul, or anyone else for that matter, he was living where he lived. Another thing that really struck me about Timothy is that we are told that a specific group of believers spoke well of him, leading me to believe there were some other believers who may not have spoken so highly of him. Timothy makes the decision to go with Paul and “the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.”
This weekend I am going to see Star Trek with my friends Matt and Tony. (Yes, we are going to enjoy the IMAX experience!!!) So I was checking out the trailer online a few minutes ago and it shows James T. Kirk, before he was Captain Kirk, being recruited to Star Fleet. Through a set of circumstances where Kirk shows his knowledge of Star Fleet protocol and his own craftiness, a gentleman shows up and introduces Kirk to the thought of joining Star Fleet. Apparently, as the brief trailer shows, this gentleman is with Kirk through much of his training.
See any similarities?
Are you a Timothy? Are you ready for God to send a Paul into your life? Are you a disciple? Are you living where you live or are you trying to find your own path? Are you doing what God has commanded you to do right now resulting in you pleasing some but upsetting some others? Are you ready to walk into all that God has in store for you?
