American Idol Winner Kris Allen & his wife Katy
Those of you who follow me on Twitter know that when it came to American Idol this season I was hooked.
I know, I know, I know… I went a little overboard virtually every Tuesday night with my tweets, but tweeting my commentary on Idol became almost like a habit (plus my friend and fellow Creeker Jeff encouraged me…)
If you hadn’t heard, Kris Allen won American Idol 2009. It was a HUGE upset. The guy he was going against seemed to be the favorite to win for weeks.
If you have watched American Idol finales before, you know that the winner always sings the final song. Excitement, tears, confusion and just raw emotion usually makes the American Idol’s finale song kind of a dud, but not tonight. Kris Allen stood and sang and led the other American Idol finalists to a special stage right behind the judges.
But my favorite part of the entire show was the last video shot the camera men got of Kris. He had just finished singing. People were cheering their brains out for him. He was surrounded by his fellow American Idol finalists and his wife is pulled up on stage and he hugs her. He didn’t just hug her. He holds her with everything he has. He digs his head into her should and, even if only for a second, the camera shows him begin to let all the emotion out as he is apparently sobbing.
Pure joy. Happiness. Elation. Accomplishment. Dreams fulfilled.
One simple camera shot captured all that.
That was definitely my favorite part of the American Idol finale.
