The New York Jets just made D’Brickashaw Ferguson one of the highest paid players in the National Football League. Is he a quarter back? A running back? A wide receiver? A line backer, cornerback, defensive lineman? No, he is an offensive lineman. He is the Jets left tackle and his #1 priority is to protect his quarter back, Mark Sanchez.
Football gets it. For the past 10 to 15 years some of the highest paid players are left tackles. Men whose #1 priority is to protect the teams most important player, the quarter back. Left tackles won’t score a touchdown. They won’t run for a first down. They won’t be featured on SportsCenter. They will just protect the people who get all the glory.
I wonder what would happen if we started looking at the left tackles in our lives and treated them with the respect they deserve?
(and… if you are in a position to pay them, pay them what they deserve. Reward them for all they have done protecting you through thick and thin…)
