Have you ever tried answering the question, “Who are you?” It’s not easy.
I am Gil Allensworth and I am married to Jennifer, the most wonderful woman in the world. Together, Jennifer and I have been blessed with our son John. We live just outside of Aiken, South Carolina, about 15 milesĀ east of Augusta, Georgia.
I love to talk about relationship. I believe that relationships are the key to personal growth. With the continued explosion of social networking you might think that everyone now is in a solid relationship, but sadly I haven’t found that to be the case.
I am not religious (although I have been in my life) but I do love talking and teaching about the way Jesus helps people grow. Jesus, the most influential leader, teacher and friend in the history of the world has given us the perfect picture of how to grow relationally. Plus, with Jesus being God and the Saviour of the world, He’s a pretty important person to talk about and learn from.
I am pretty opinionated about sports, especially football. So if you catch me blogging a lot about sports, that is just me being me.
I might take on politics occasionally. I am a registered Republican, but lately I have been asking myself “Why?” Then I look at the Democrats and realize I don’t want to sign up to be on their team. In all actuality, I don’t like either political party, but this is America; if you don’t pick a side, someone else will pick it for you.
I hope you enjoy my blog. If you do, please leave me a comment or two. If you don’t, leave four or five!
Gil,
Dave Willis is a great friend of mine. We met and had the opportunity to see each other and rock out at Newspring.
I did not know your passion and what you are trying to do in Aiken. Sounds like you are on one of those rides that anything could happen. Those are the best ones. I work with some amazing churches all across the Country. If I can ever be of any help or you just have a prayer need working on let me know how I can help.
Chris

I just read your take on the new Calvinism and Mark Driscoll and the Trinity. I appreciate your very honest and thoughtful discussion, and I especially liked your analogy of Calvinism and the Trinity, both of which I agree we can never explain, why waste the time when there is Jesus?
My husband and I (we are both 63), our grown daughter and son-in-law, all attend the Bellevue campus of Mars Hill. My husband and I have attended several fundamentalist (hate that word today but they are) churches since becoming saved at 26 years, one was Overlake Christian in Redmond, Highlands Comm, etc. We went to little ones too. Then we heard about Pastor Mark and went to hear him in Seattle. Our sons, (when they lived here now are in ARizona) loved Mars Hill. So we started last summer and we love it! I Peter has never been so clear. We love Mark, our Catholic/Sicilian son in law was baptized in Puget Sound a year ago, and we feel Mark is like Spurgeon and the founder of Methodist church, name escapes me. We have never seen so many young people sit and learn and grow like Mars Hill teaches. Thanks for your article, Jeanie and Don, Renton, Washington
Jeanie, Wow… Thanks for the feedback. It is great to hear that you are so passionate about Mark. (btw… i hate the word fundamentalist too.)
